When I first met Derek & Marian properly I was 7 months pregnant and moving in with them, not quite what they'd expected! But what a welcome & what a start to such a close relationship, I am so grateful for that first year when James arrived & we were part of the Griffiths household. I was spoiled rotten, waited on as an expectant & then actual mum, given so much consideration and attention that I couldn't help but love this dear couple. The on demand babysitting was pretty great too! We had so many laughs & really enjoyed spending time together, paving the way for a very happy 'daughter in law' relationship, a rich blessing indeed. Derek was always laughing, enjoying our lads, playing at any games they asked and always keen to patiently share his expertise. I've put some photos on this tribute picture pages showing fun Grandad Derek! We enjoyed so many family holidays together at Lydstep, Pembroke, Cornwall and of course the big trip to New Zealand (after a stop at LA for Disney) that was generously paid for by Marian & Derek. Five weeks with the family flew by with never a cross word between any of us, that's how much fun it was being together. To me Derek was an extra 'dad', I loved & appreciated him for the caring, generous, family man he was and for always being quick with his wicked sense of humour. I am so grateful for a share of him throughout the years and Roger & I are especially thankful for the last week we had together with him & Marian just before he passed. We talked, teased, laughed & cried, such a blessing. A truly lovely man who we will all miss but are so much the richer for knowing. Rest in peace dear Derek, thank you for being a fantastic Father in law, love Amanda ❤
